What better way to end the summer than with a holiday in Mauritius with 4 of my best girlfriends!
In most cases, package holiday deals are the only option for people going to Isle de Maurice. There are numerous beautiful resorts, beaches to explore, sports activities to take part in and sunsets to watch. I am one of the few though that was a little luckier…
I have a few friends who live in and around Mauritius and they made sure that we had a holiday we would never forget. In true Mauritian hospitable style, they made sure that we experienced the real Mauritius!
We began our trip with a few nights in the West and stayed in a lovely villa in an area called Flic n Flac. We were treated to a day at a lovely, relaxed, beautiful resort called Tamassa which was situated in the South West of the Island. Flic n Flac is also famous for dolphin trips. We went out in a boat to just off one of the islands and I experienced something that will be with me for the rest of my life. Swimming with dolphins is completely enlightening! They say, they can see into our souls and regardless of whether this it true or not, I felt a real connection with these beautiful mammals.
We left Flic n Flac bound for a little town in the North, called Mont Choisy, just outside Le Grand Baie. The view from our penthouse apartment was breath-taking! While staying here we did a catamaran trip to another island, Isle aux Gabriel where we spent the day snorkeling, tanning and enjoying the local specialty “jungle juice.” Needless to say there was not much juice in it! We raided the markets in Port Louis, cheered the Mayors horses at the races in Champ de Mars and took a trip on a glass bottomed boat!
The next day we moved down to East Coast where we stayed in another beautiful villa in, Belle Mare, where we had some much needed chill out time – we busied ourselves with lying by the pool, drinking cocktails and discussing our outfits for the evening! After a day of rest we headed off on another day trip to Ile aux Cerfs were we got quite adventurous and went para-sailing! after which we went for a brief boat trip to see the waterfalls.
As our trip came drew to a happy close, we headed back to Flic n Flac for our last night. We went for dinner at a restaurant EVERYONE should try called Domaine Anna and to sum it up in one word… WOW! The freshest most beautiful sea food I have ever tasted!
The next time you planning a trip to Mauritius, think twice about that package holiday to a resort and instead be adventurous and explore because Mauritius has a lot more to offer than just beaches and coconut trees!
